OLIVIER KAEPPELIN

Olivier Kaeppelin is a writer, exhibition curator, and art critic. A poet, he founded the art and literature journal EXIT in 1975. He is the author of poetry collections and texts published in both French and international journals and anthologies. He has written numerous essays on art, including Le Banquet de Gérard Garouste (Le Seuil – Fiction & Cie), Daniel Dezeuze: Dessins (Skira), Correspondances on Jean-Claude Ruggirello (La Différence – Carnets Comparés), Encombrements on Piotr Klemensiewicz (Actes Sud), and many others. He has also written on Toni Grand, Richard Deacon, Jonathan Lasker, Gérard Gasiorowski, Yves Zurstrassen, Claudine Drai, Jochen & Esther Gerz, Jean-Pierre Bertrand, Imi Knoebel, Jacques Monory, Eduardo Arroyo, Philippe Cognet, Lee Bae, Markus Raetz, Wolfgang Gäfgen, Richard Baquié, Pierrette Bloch, Lawrence Carroll, Claire-Jeanne Jézéquel, Orsten Groom, Stéphane Pencréac’h, Nazanin Pouyandeh, among others.
He has curated exhibitions featuring Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Jörg Immendorff, Sophie Calle, Amos Gitai, Lydie Arickx, Fabrice Hyber, Pascal Convert, Damien Cabanes, Gloria Friedmann, Djamel Tatah, Liu Shangying, Joan Miró, Alberto Giacometti, Louise Tilleke, H.K. Kwon, as well as thematic exhibitions such as Par le rêve (Panorama 21 – Le Fresnoy), Avec la lumière (Galerie Guillaume), and ENSU (CREDAC).
He has held numerous leadership roles in both public and private cultural institutions, including Deputy Director in charge of programming at France Culture, Director of Visual Arts at the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, Director of the Palais de Tokyo project, and Director of the Fondation Maeght.
He initiated major cultural events such as Monumenta and La Force de l’art (Grand Palais, Paris), served as Artistic Director of the 2014 Busan Biennale Inhabiting The World (South Korea), curated Blickachsen 9 (Bad Homburg, Frankfurt, Germany), and co-directed Dans la nuit des images (Grand Palais, Paris) alongside Alain Fleischer.
A radio producer, he was also involved in the creation of Les Nuits Magnétiques (Radio France, France Culture) with Alain Veinstein.
