A Word from the Editor: The latest from les éditions Leal Torres

Dear readers, 

On this day that marks the midpoint of the year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on these first few months, and share the projects that will shape the second half of 2026 for les éditions Leal Torres.

As many of you know, our team kicked off 2026 with what was our young publishing house’s first trip to North America. We traveled to California in February to participate in the tenth edition of the biennial CODEX Book Art Fair & Symposium in Oakland, taking advantage of the trip to present our artwork-books at the Alliance Française of San Francisco. This wonderful experience allowed us to meet book lovers from all over the world gathered to celebrate the art of the printed book, and to discuss the fate of this precious object in a rapidly changing world.

In April, we participated in the Salon Antibes Design & Métiers d'Art fair, an exhibition and fair dedicated to design and fine crafts curated by Béatrice Di Vita. This enriching experience gave us the opportunity to discover the innovative work of crafstmen and artisans from France, Spain, and beyond, while sharing our passion for the artisanal creation of exceptional books with a wide audience.

Most recently, Société Générale Private Banking invited us to give a presentation on the artwork-book and its place in an increasingly digital world, alongside Gérard Traquandi—an artist whose work is part of the Société Générale art collections. Heartfelt thanks to Laurent Issaurat—a passionate art lover whose enthusiasm is contagious—for organizing this gathering, which felt like a truly special, suspended moment in time.

Three major events will mark the second half of this year: an exhibition at Artcurial in September dedicated to the launch of our seventh book, Comment naît un livre ? [How is a Book Born?]; our participation in the Mouans-Sartoux Book Festival in October; and our participation in the Paris International Rare Book and Graphic Arts Fair in December, to end the year on a high note.

We are also making good headway on our two ongoing projects: Comment naît un livre ?, bringing together Pierre-Marc de Biasi and Louise Bescond around a literary masterpiece by Gustave Flaubert; and Application Formée, which brings together Joseph Kosuth, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Olivier Kaeppelin, Dominique Perrault, and Jean-Christophe Ballot, and is scheduled to launch in late 2027.

It would be impossible for me to adequately testify to the extent of my gratitude to all those who follow and support our work, all the artists and artisans who dedicate themselves to the creation of our books, all the collaborators, collectors, booksellers, critics, journalists and bibliophiles who ensure their distribution in bookstores, at salons, fairs and literary meetings. Thank you all for your commitment to the ink and paper book, this guarantor of our humanity, this material representation of excellence in humanist creation. I feel privileged to be able to continue this great and beautiful adventure with you by our side.
